Annual Events of the Nebraska Writers Guild
The annual Spring Conference has found a suitable "home" at spacious LaVista Conference Center off I-80, the west side of Omaha. We anticipate many years of showing off Nebraska to speakers from the east and west coast who will learn that our members have a lot to offer the publishing and film industries.
The annual Fall Conference in the western part of the state is an opportunity for our members to get outside the major cities and enjoy the spectacular Rural Nebraska ambience. The Friday evening member readings has grown into a special social period for all involved.
"Write Across Nebraska" Mid-Summer Event
Write Across Nebraska - WAN - is a state wide event that happens each July. The purpose of WAN is to encourage all writers (not just members of the guild) to write. After WAN is over, we turn in our word counts and tally them up. Our goal is to beat our word count each year.
NWG at the NE State Fair
Members are encouraged to contact the State Fair Coordinator to sign up for "hosting" the booth for whatever time is possible during the run of the Fair. Approximately 25,000 people walk by that booth. We hand out fliers, talk about our organization and members can sell books. You can obtain a discounted pass to the fair by volunteering.
Special Event: Six Corners
Six Corners of Nebraska is the Nebraska Writers Guild’s gift to all Nebraskans celebrating our 150 years of Statehood. It consists of a series of six events - one near each of Nebraska's six corners - Chadron (Northwest), Norfolk (Northeast), Bellevue (Southeast), McCook (Southwest), North Platte (Big Springs Corner), and Kimball (Panhandle Southwest). These events will have speakers and workshops you can sign up for. These occur one per month, on the first Sunday of each month, March through August. Click for more information.
