A three-day April event in Omaha for writers of all levels. Experience hands-on learning, critique sessions, and chances to connect with peers and industry professionals.

Get Involved

Getting involved with the Nebraska Writers Guild offers members a wide range of opportunities to contribute, grow, and connect. Whether welcoming new members, serving on committees, or stepping into leadership roles, involvement in the guild allows writers to support one another while developing their own skills and influence within the literary community.

Conference & Community Outreach

  • Assist with annual conference logistics, help run bookstore
  • Represent and support the guild at in-person literary events
  • Help organize and support writing events, readings, and book launches
  • Maintain relationships with local bookstores, libraries, and media outlets

Education & Craft Development

  • Teach workshops or mini-classes in areas of expertise
  • Develop writing prompts or exercises for guild newsletters or meetings
  • Mentor new or emerging writers in structured programs
  • Host writing sprints or accountability groups

Marketing, Promotion & Public Relations

  • Manage or contribute to social media accounts
  • Design graphics and flyers; edit and manage video library
  • Write articles, interviews, or columns for newsletters or blogs
  • Photograph or film guild events for archives and promotion

Membership & Community Building

  • Welcome new members and run orientation sessions
  • Plan social gatherings, mixers, and virtual meetups
  • Conduct member surveys and help analyze feedback
  • Serve as “genre ambassadors” to build sub-communities within the guild

Administration & Organizational Support

  • Serve on committees (conference, membership, programming, community, etc.)
  • Help manage email newsletters and mailing automation
  • Help maintain member databases and mailing lists
  • Assist with website updates or technical support

Leadership & Governance

  • Serve on the board of directors
  • Chair or co-chair committees
  • Help develop long-term strategic plans
  • Draft policies and operational documentation
